once when i was six years old, i saw a magnificent picture in a book, calledtrue stories from nature, about the primeval forest. it was a picture of a boaconstrictor in the act of swallowing an animal. here is a copy of thedrawing.
in the book it said:" boa constrictors swallow their prey whole, withoutchewing it. after that they are not able to move, and they sleep through the sixmonths that they need for digestion."
i pondered deeply, then, over the adventures of the jungle. and after somework with a colored pencil i succeeded in making my first drowing,my drawingnumber one. it looked like this:
i showed my masterpiece to the grown-ups, and asked them whether thedrawing frightened them.
but they answered:"frighten? why should any one be frightened by ahat?"
my drawing was not a picture of a hat. it was a picture of a boaconstrictor digesting an elephant. but since the grown-ups were not able tounderstand it, i made another drawing: i drew the inside of the boaconstrictor,so that the grown-ups could see it clearly. they always need to havethings explained. my drawing number two looked like this:
the grown-ups response, this time, was to adviseme to lay aside my drawingof boa constrictors, whether from the inside or the outside and devote myselfinstead to geography, history, arithmetic and grammar. that is why, at the ageof six, i gave up what might have been a magnificent career as a painter. i hadbeen disheartened by the failure of my drawing number one and my drawing numbertwo. grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it si tiresome forchildren to be always and forever explaining things to them.
so then i chose another profession, and learned to pilot airplanes.
i have flown a little over all parts of the world:and it is ture thatgeography has been very useful to me. at a glance i can distinguish china fromarizona. if one gets lost in the night, such knowledge is valuable.
"little prince" is about to tell a story of alien children to live in avery small planet, that planet there is only one him, he has to take care of theplanet, he is the planet the little prince, grown up, he went to other planetstravel, has encountered all sorts of people (aliens)。 finally he came to theauthor encountered on earth, and then died here
look at this book, adults should not ripe to look at the mentality, to thepoint of view of your heart to understand it. the little prince has a pure heartand a rich imagination.
when the little prince left his planet, on the road, when a king, and thatking would just like to control all rational, this is not like us? especiallywhen the teacher, like to go to other people, because order that other peoplecan find themselves high up above and become a king, others only obeys.
the second encounter is love are people who love to be admired him, praisehim anything except hear, in fact, we ourselves do they not? others as long asone to praise himself, we do not carried away on it? through this we can easilybecome conceited person, but also easy for the offensive.
there drunkard, but also a businessman, even to light lamps and geographer,i think those people is equivalent to our portrayal of the real world, love theorder, and love to be admired, i would like to re-occupy the possession, finallyleft with nothing … …
i think the little prince this book is a family book, in this book, i canfeel that for whom fame for modern day busy round, but not know they have a deepimpact on the younger generation, small prince did not understand why adultswant to do that? like all children have the same do not know. so i felt, howmany more to understand the needs of children, and is no longer a randomperfunctory, more children to learn about the ideas, interests, rather thanrestraint.
i am prince from an early age i learned one thing, the really importantthings, the eyes are invisible. really important things is to look atmotives.
despite i’ve not in my childhood yet, i still prefer reading fairy-talestories. the tales, which accompany with me in my old days, often make me thinkof some precious experience and sensation which only belong to children. thissummer i’ve review this kind of tale, which was published in 1940. it’s theworld-famous fairy-tale by the french author, antoine de st-exupery, the littleprince.
as many other fairy-tales, the outline of the little prince is not verycomplex. “i”, the narrator of the story, is a pilot whose plane has somethingwrong and lands in the sahara. in this occasion, the pilot makes theacquaintance of the little prince, a little boy from another planet, theasteroid b612. the little prince has escaped from his tiny planet, because hehas some quarrel with a rose, which grows on his planet. in that case he lefthis own planet and took an exploration at some neighbor asteroids.
on his all-alone journey, the little prince meets different kinds ofpeople, which includes a king, a conceited man, a tippler, a businessman, alamplighter and a geographer. from these people he gets a conclusion that thegrown-ups are very odd. following the instruction of the geographer, he descendsin the sahara, on the earth.
traveling on the earth, the little prince, who sees a garden offive-thousand roses, is overcome with astonishment and sadness, as he considershis rose is unique in the universe before. at that time a fox appears. the fox,who tell the little prince about the meaning of the word “tame”, becomes his newfriend. at the time to say farewell, the fox makes him know that his rose isunique because she is his rose and tamed by him. from that the little princebegins to treasure friendship and be responsible to his rose.
at the anniversary day of his descent of the earth, rejecting the pilot’sadvice, he goes back to his own planet by bite of a snake. “it’s too far. i cannot carry this body with me. it’s too heavy.” he said. he tells his friend, thepilot, he must be responsible for his rose, so he has to go back. at the end theauthor doesn’t tell us the ending directly. maybe it’s more significant for usto imagine, and for more, think over.
one of the important characters is the rose. growing on the planet, she isvery beautiful, but her coquetry and vanity suffer the little prince a lot. inspite of they love each other, he soon becomes unhappy. on the time of hisdeparture, he just knows she certainly loves him. the character of the littleprince actually represents the children, and their native thoughts and deeds. onthe contrary, the inhabitants on the other planets, such as the king, thebusinessman and the conceited man, they also reflect the defects in thegrown-up’s world. the real theme of this fairy-tale with a little sadness, iguess, is the consequence of pure love and friendship in our lives, but notothers “matters of consequence” of the grown-ups.
unbelievable, this little book moved me a lot. i seldom think about thetrue meaning of love and life before. well, now i can say, with my shortsixteen-year’s life experience, it’s like the stars in the sky that lit myheart. the little prince is not only an ordinary fairy-tale for children, butalso for grown-ups, and our teenagers. nevertheless, when i read this book, ifeel a little sad – about ourselves, whom are losing more and more innocence
